Sprite art from “Herogest”!
Saying I had a few gothic-ish game projects inbetween the ones I finish would be an understatement. I released a video of this around the time Bindign of Isaac was announced as some sort of weird “I’m not gonna make this game now, but for future reference, just wanna make clear I wasn’t copying”, even if that shouldn’t be necessary. They turned out with very different goals. Herogest was meant to generate new gameplay and, to an extent, mechanics. Not be about finding loot and trinkets at all.
Basically it would generate Zelda-like dungeons with one item, and the dungeon would add traps based on the item. Many more ideas and sophistication went into even the prototype engine, but it was during the beginning of Iconoclasts dev and I knew I needed 100% of my time on it. Definitely coming back to this one. <3

By the way, having abandoned projects just means you’re a game dev. People used to love to say I never finished anything. They’re just big projects. ;)
Some very old sprite art! I don’t think the “goth girl squad” game had a project name (the folder is called Succubus). I was more into cutesy in the past, I suppose. The redheaded girl is named Robin (Graves, because pun), interestingly. I think the gameplay was planned to be a turnbased sidescroller and you had a “range” to move and platform within in a battle arena, per turn.
The rest is clearly a Mario fangame I once planned, with an old friend called Bernhard Politsch. He made a pretty faithful engine, as I recall. I, meanwhile, made a very bad Mario walk cycle. Please make note how we planned an Ice Flower before Mario Galaxy. Because it’s such a creative idea!
2007 abandoned project tentatively called “Wienerghosts!!”.
I abandoned it since I didn’t feel I either knew how to realise my ideas, or if Multimedia Fusion 2 (which I used then) could even do it. You’d be making the ghosts happy to beat a stage, by doing stuff like fill in parts of a planet using things like weather or space debris. You’d be able to rotate the planet, but not its atmosphere, etc.
There is only this to it. You can spin the planet, and watch the Weinerghosts go back and forth.
EDIT: The ghosts were based on Hattifatteners.
